About

I’m an award-winning science presenter and journalist with a background in physics.

Chasing the science behind the Northern Lights in Svalbard, Norway.

Podcasts and radio

I present podcasts and radio programmes for the BBC World Service, including CrowdScience, where I investigate listeners’ science questions, and Unexpected Elements, which explores the science behind news headlines. I also present Wind Down Wisdom on Classical Wind Down for BBC Radio 3, sharing science-backed ways to relax.

Recently, I developed and presented my own series for BBC Radio 4, Looking for No Man’s Land, where I try to find somewhere on Earth unaffected by humans.

I’m currently making another Radio 4 series, Last Orders, where I examine the UK’s changing relationship with alcohol.

Alongside presenting, I regularly appear as a science ‘expert’ on shows including Inside Science on BBC Radio 4, and The Climate Question and What in the World on the BBC World Service.

TV

I host The Engineers, where I chair conversations with world-leading experts for BBC World TV.

I’ve also appeared on international channels, including DR in Denmark and Bulgarian National Television, where I’ve featured as an expert guest.

Social media

I create science videos for clients and my personal accounts. Across platforms, my videos have accumulated over 20 million views.

This black block of pitch looks pretty solid, right? But actually, it can behave like a liquid because if you put pitch in a funnel, it drips out the bottom once every 10 years. Professor John Mainstone was very keen to see it. Here is the series of unfortunate, and almost unbelievable events that would mean Prof. Mainstone would sadly never get to see the pitch in action…😭 #fail #science #experiment #queensland #physics

♬ I’ll Be with You from This Day Forward, For Better, For Worse, For Richer, For Poorer, In Sickness and in Health, To Love and to Cherish, Till Death Do Us Part (feat. Anastasia Goose) – Andrei Krylov

I also regularly feature on YouTube episodes of What in the World and The Climate Question.

Talks and live events

I love making science come alive on stage through chairing panels, giving talks, and literally blowing things up during live science shows.

Education

I have an MA in Physical Sciences (specialising in physics) from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London.
